Dash for the Tash V

The Slug, Day 44
And last.
Unfortunately not enough was raised to have the slug ceremonally removed as part of the Parachute fundraising so they miss out there and I will have a private removal over the next day or so.

Until next Movember...

Good on ya Pope!

Internet news...

Sufferers of infectious diseases such as AIDS should not be victims of prejudice, rejection and indifference by a society obsessed with personal physical beauty and health, Pope Benedict said on Friday.

The Pope, speaking to participants of a conference on the pastoral care of patients with infectious diseases, said the dignity of all sick people had to respected, regardless of which disease they had or how they may have contracted it.

"Among the prejudices that hinder or limit efficient care for victims of infectious diseases is the attitude of indifference and even exclusion or rejection which sometimes emerges in a rich society," he told the group.

"This attitude is even fostered by the image given in the media of men and women who are mostly concerned about their own physical beauty, health and biological vitality," he said.

Locking oneself in "one's own little world" while others suffered from often repugnant diseases was becoming "a dangerous social trend," he said.

As of the 23rd of December, I'll be homeless.

One of my flatmates is wanting to move closer to church, over in Spreydon and the other may be moving down to Wanaka for a new job. The chances of finding two flatmates before Christmas, along with the slumlord wanting to increase the rent by $30 per week, along with the lease which needs to be signed for another year mean that the chances are almost nil.

So it is with a little de-ja-vous that I happen to be looking for a temp. home for Christmas while I get my butt into gear and start looking for a house!

Kenny and Christ...

I saw Kenny last night (Thanks Jen and Kineta), great movie, the story of a Plumber with a big heart and thick skin. He is criticized from all angles, but is still able to find purpose, friendship and a little romance through being a caring and honourable man who loves what he does. A solid 8.5 out of 10 for me.

Best quote (which I can print here) is "There is a smell in here that is going to outlast religion..."

Another good movie I've just caught the trailer for is "The Nativity Story"

For a preview of the Nativity Story, staring Keisha Castle-Hughes click on here

Should be a great story, in time for Christmas.

The only problem is that after it comes out in theatres, we'll have to endure the countless Christian "experts" who have been starved of attention since the fracas of The Passion has died down, who feel they need to justify their ministries by pulling the movie apart and possibly ruining, what for many people could become, a Spiritually enlightening experience.

"This story means so much to people all over the world. I hope audiences can relate to the film on a personal level and find some inspiration to get through their own challenges and difficulties." says Director Catherine Hardwicke

Two movies about Christ figures?

One in a stable and one in a portaloo.

It is also interesting to note that possibly the equivalent of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples,

?"[Jesus] got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. ?? After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him."
(Jn 13:2-5).

...in today's society could be cleaning toilets or putting your hand down a portaloo toilet to retrieve a lost wedding ring of some stranger.

Nice little Story...

Little Helen

Once upon a time there was a young girl named Helen who bought a donkey from a farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.

When the farmer drove up the next day, he said, "Sorry miss, I have some bad news. The donkey is on my truck, but I'm afraid he's dead."

Helen replied," Well then, just give me my money back."

The farmer said, "I can't do that. I went and spent it already."

Helen said, "OK then, just unload the donkey anyway."

The farmer asked, "What are ya gonna do with him?"

Helen said, "I'm going to raffle him off."

The farmer exclaimed, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!"

But Helen, with a big smile on her face, said "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody that he's dead."

A month later the farmer met up with Helen and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?"

Helen said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $798.00."

Totally amazed, the farmer asked, "Didn't anyone complain that you had stolen their money because you lied about the donkey being dead?"

Helen replied, "The only guy who found out about the donkey being dead was the raffle winner, when he came to claim his prize. So I gave him his $2 back plus $200 extra, which is double the going value of a donkey, so he thought I was a really great girl."

Helen grew up and eventually became the Prime Minister of New Zealand, and no matter how many times she lied or how much money she stole from Kiwi voters, as long as she gave them back some of the stolen money, most of them thought she was a great person.
