I've moved. In my old flat we decided that if and when you move out, you are responsible for finding someone to fill your room. It sort of protects the others from people if they decide to bail. I have been advertising for a number of weeks, I am also responsible for paying rent for the room until someone moves in.
Early last week I called to see how things were going and was told that they had someone appropriate, but they were going to wait until the end of the week to see if there were any more offers. Because of this I put another add in the Press on Wednesday and thought nothing more of it.
I called on Friday for an update, left a message but no reply. I called again on Saturday only to find that because they had taken so long to get back to the interested party, he had gone somewhere else. Suffice to say I was a little annoyed. Not only was I not informed about this earlier so I could put another add in Saturday's Press, but there seemed quite a bit of apathy about the whole situation.
I find the house has not been properly cleaned since I left, the gardens have not been tended to for over a month and one of the flatmates has a friend staying in my old vacant room. The place is a mess, and as such no-one with any sense would be interested in moving in. (except the squatter in my old room)
I have left some furnature, a fridge and other bits and pieces there to help until they can sort some for themselves, but there is little concern for replacing them.
Now I'm wondering how much more responsibility do I need to take. If they're not interested in helping in the process I'm starting to feel that I am fully within my rights to wash my hands of the situation.
Integrity Costs sometimes, but for how long?
